Celebrity Designed Earth-Friendly Clothing Lines

Versace
Many celebrities have causes they believe in, and a great number of celebs are vocal about their concern for the environment. These fashionable celebrity women have put their beliefs to work with their own eco-friendly and organic clothing lines.

Emma Watson

"Harry Potter" actress Emma Watson is an avid supporter of eco-related causes. One of the nearest and dearest to the actress is UK-based People Tree. Watson serves as both spokeswoman and designer for the organization.

Watson's People Tree clothing collection includes tops, bottoms, dresses, and accessories made from organic materials constructed by workers in certain Third World countries. The best part about People Tree, according to Watson, is that People Tree pays their workers a fair wage for their time.

"This is not an Emma Watson clothing line. This is not a celebratory endorsement, this is something I thought was a really great idea and I wanted to help with. I just thought fashion was a great way to help people," Watson said of her work with People Tree.

Leona Lewis

British singer Leona Lewis is known for her staunch support of animal rights and the vegan lifestyle. Now, the singer is developing her own clothing line of animal-friendly fashions. The line is still awhile away from launch, but Lewis says there are plenty of designers that offer vegan-friendly clothing.

Stella McCartney is amazing for high end stuff, and TopShop has great stuff as well, and Miss Selfridges (in the UK)," Lewis said recently.

Lauren Bush

Model Lauren Bush unveiled her eco-friendly clothing line, Lauren Pierce, in 2009. The line, described as "a peace offering to our interconnected world. It is a conscious expression of respect for the earth and our collective humanity. The designs reflect an easy, elegant sensibility that is natural and timeless," according to the clothing line's mission statement.

Each collection in the Lauren Pierce collection is designed to benefit female artisans in countries around the world, according to Bush. Many of these women live in developing countries - the first collection in 2009
benefited Women for Women International, an organization that teaches women in the Democratic Republic of the Congo on fabric-dying techniques.

I've always loved design and had an interest in the fashion world, but to me, it's important that the clothes do good and stand for something," Bush told Vanity Fair in 2009. "My goal is to create a product that is a little more meaningful."

Selena Gomez

Justin Bieber's main squeeze developed an eco-friendly clothing line for teens available at Kmart. Gomez's clothing line -- named the Dream Out Loud, collection - includes value-priced clothing and accessories made with organic and eco-friendly materials.

"I am proud to be able to join forces with Kmart to release my own fashion collection," Gomez said in 2010. "This has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember, and I feel privileged to be able to give the consumer great product at a great value."

Colonel Gaddafi Will Not Be Given Safe Haven In Algeria

Colonel Gaddafi will not be given a safe haven in Algeria if he attempts to join family members there who have been given leave to stay on humanitarian grounds. Algeria is well aware of the international condemnation and security problems it may encounter through allowing Gaddafi's wife and children to cross over the border. Unlike Gaddafi though, his family members in Algeria are not subject to arrest warrants from the ICC. According to Press TV , Algerian foreign minister Mourad Medelci says that if Gaddafi does come knocking at the Algerian door he will not be granted entry.  "The hypothesis that Gaddafi could knock our door was never considered," said Medelci. Meldelci also added that Algeria, which has so far refused to accept the legitimacy of the Libyan rebel National Transitional Council, may be willing to do so if a government is formed that represents all regions of Libya. Algeria has particular worries regarding Islamists, and worked
